Why I Fell In Love With Tallow

Why I feel in Love With Tallow

If you had told me a few years ago that I’d be standing over a pot of gently simmering beef fat, watching it transform into creamy, golden tallow, I would’ve laughed and called you crazy. But in March of 2025, I rendered my very first batch — and something inside me shifted in a way I didn’t expect.

It wasn’t something I planned. It wasn’t part of a bigger vision or a long-time farm dream. And it definitely didn’t start because we were dealing with skin problems or trying to “fix” anything. It began with simple curiosity — a spark of inspiration from slow living, the desire to make something real, something nourishing, something with my own hands for our family.

We’re not a big, established farm with generations of tradition. We’re just a regular family trying to do things with intention, learning as we go. But that first time I rendered tallow, the process drew me in completely. Watching suet slowly melt into a clear, clean oil… then purifying it… then turning it into something soft, soothing, and downright beautiful — it felt grounding, almost nostalgic. Old-fashioned in the very best way. It felt like something I was meant to be doing. And I remember thinking, “How did something this simple, this pure, get forgotten?”

Most people find tallow because of eczema, psoriasis, or sensitive skin. Our story is different. We didn’t switch because we needed to — we fell in love with how it made our skin feel. Tallow is naturally rich in vitamins A, D, E, K, and skin-loving fatty acids that mirror our own skin’s oils. It absorbs quickly, nourishes deeply, supports the skin barrier, moisturizes without clogging pores, and actually works with your skin instead of sitting on top of it.

What drew me in even more was the simplicity. No confusing chemical lists, no fillers, no mysterious ingredients — just real, whole, thoughtfully made skincare. Before long, we realized tallow was replacing so many products in our home. It became our daily moisturizer, our go-to for dry skin, a soothing balm for the kids, our post-sun remedy — truly the thing we reached for again and again.

After that first batch, I was completely hooked. I started infusing herbs, experimenting with scents, adjusting textures, whipping batches, and letting family and friends try them. Every reaction was the same — “This feels amazing,” “My skin has never been this soft,” “Can you make me more?” And slowly, lovingly, Wild Dandelion Boutique’s tallow line was born.

Today, making tallow is one of my favorite parts of our rhythm. It’s hands-on, slow, and grounding. It turns something humble into something deeply nourishing. And it allows us to create products that genuinely help people. Whether you’re dealing with dryness, looking for simple non-toxic skincare, or just love using ingredients that make sense — tallow is a gift.

From our small family to yours, thank you for being here and supporting this journey.
